As we head into the final week of the regular season, there is a change at the top in 3A. After losing its top spot in the rankings early in the season, Bellevue is back at No. 1.
This was a tough decision to make. Lakes continues to win games in impressive fashion, but the Wolverines knocked off third-ranked Liberty, 27-21, on Friday. At one point in the third quarter, Bellevue led 24-7 and the team seems to be coming together after a long list of injuries and several tough early season matchups.
The Patriots played well in the loss and it's impossible to punish them after that effort, so they stay at No. 3.
Obviously, the big game this week is on Thursday in 4A with No. 1 Skyline going to Pop Keeney to play No. 2 Bothell. The winner of this matchup gets the No. 1 seed in the playoffs out of KingCo 4A. The loser takes the second seed.
I'm expecting it to be a classic already, a close back-and-forth contest. I'll be heading to both schools early in the week. Check back for blog posts on both teams as the game gets closer. We are also going to try and live blog the game for fans who can't make it out to Pop Keeney. I'll have more information on that later in the week as well.
In 4A:
The top eight spots remain unchanged this week. After Central Valley's loss to Gonzaga Prep, Bethel jumps to No. 9, while the Bears tumble out of the rankings. The only one-loss team remaining in the GSL is 3A Mount Spokane.
It's hard to tell which 4A club is the class of the league. Central Valley, Mead and Gonzaga Prep are all 6-2. After a win over Ferris, it seems like Mead is playing the best football right now.
Since the GSL teams keep knocking each other off, Eisenhower jumps into the top 10 for the first time this year. The undefeated Cadets have been lurking for a while and their unblemished record allows them to slip into that last spot in the rankings.
In 3A:
We've already covered the change at the top. Bellevue is No. 1, Lakes No. 2 and Liberty comes in at No. 3. Four through nine stay the same with the only change coming at No. 10.
I knew heading into last week that the winner of the Peninsula-Enumclaw game would take the final spot. I picked Enumclaw to take that game, but Peninsula pulled it out and jumps into the rankings.
I didn't include them in the on the radar section, but a team to pay attention to is Mount Si. The Wildcats pulled the upset over Juanita and are playing really good football right now.

After games of Saturday, Oct. 17
It was almost a clean sweep for the teams in last week's ESPN RISE FAB 50 national rankings. Forty-seven of the 50 were winners over the weekend, two were idle and just one team was bitten by the upset bug.
With that kind of showing, there was little movement in rankings. The top three teams -- No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), No. 2 Don Bosco (Ramsey, N.J.) and No. 3 Cedar Hill (Texas) -- held steady in this week's voting, and No. 5 Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) continued to nip at the heels of No. 4 Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.).
The only changes among the top 20 were a flip-flop at Nos. 15 and 16 and a new No. 20. Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.), which had its bye week, and Stony Point (Round Rock, Texas) changed positions. Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.) impressed in a 42-0 win over rival Issaquah (Wash.) to move up two spots from No. 22. Previous No. 20 Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) is No. 21.
The only team to drop out of the FAB 50 was previous No. 28 Hoover (Ala.). The Buccaneers came into their matchup with Vestavia Hills (Ala.) at No. 1 in Alabama but lost to the No. 6 Rebels 30-27. Vestavia Hills (7-1) surged to a 27-0 lead by the third quarter. According to the Birmingham News, Ryan Carter passed for 333 yards for Hoover but was intercepted four times.
Replacing Hoover in the FAB 50 is the consensus No. 1 team in Michigan, Stevenson (Sterling Heights, Mich.). The Titans (8-0) feature quarterback Jason Fracassa, who recently became the state's all-time career passing leader. Among those protecting Fracassa is 6-foot-5, 300-pound Carl Davis, one of the top college prospects in the state.
Panelists: Doug Huff (Wheeling, W. Va.); Jon Mahoney (Brooklyn, N.Y.); Sheldon Shealer (Frederick, Md.); Brian Stumpf (Torrance, Calif.); Mark Tennis (Stockton, Calif.)
Contributors: Kynon Codrington, Mike Loveday, Bob Masajo, Paul Muyskens (plus dozens of other prep sportswriters and recruiting analysts from throughout the nation).
*Ties in points are broken according to which team was ranked higher by a majority of panelists.

After two relatively calm weeks in the rankings there is a significant shakeup in the lower half of the 4A rankings with both Gonzaga Prep and Ferris falling over the weekend. There is a slight change at the bottom in 3A.
The GSL continues to be one of the most intriguing leagues in the state. Central Valley (4A) and Mount Spokane (3A) each have one loss and four teams are sitting at 5-2. The final weeks of the season are going to be fun to follow.
Equally interesting is the looming matchup of Bothell and Skyline in the KingCo 4A title game. I'm planning on swinging by the Cougars' practice tomorrow to catch up with running back Luke Proulx and coach Tom Bainter.
However, before we get too far ahead, there is a big matchup in 3A this week with No. 2 Bellevue taking on No. 3 Liberty. The Wolverines seem to be finding their rhythm at the right time, but Patriots have been strong from start to finish thus far.
In 4A:
The top seven spots remain the same this week. Since Gonzaga Prep fell to Mead, 17-13, and Ferris fell to Central Valley, 34-31, undefeated Marysville-Pilchuck moves to No. 8 after knocking off Kamiak, 14-3, without Austin Denton. Central Valley jumps in at No. 9 and Bethel climbs into the rankings at No. 10.
In 3A:
The top eight teams took care of business. Juanita is the only team that dropped a game over the weekend. The Rebels have faced a tough three-week stretch, but should finish the year strong. On Friday, they ran into a Bellevue team that is rounding into shape at the right time.
Camas jumps to No. 9, while Enumclaw, which is coming off a close win over Bonney Lake, moves into the rankings for the first time this year at No. 10.
The Hornets' only loss this year came against No. 1 Lakes. They face a big test on Friday when they travel to Peninsula.

If Miami Northwestern (Miami) junior quarterback Teddy Bridgewater hadn't orchestrated a second-half comeback on ESPN2 last Thursday night, there would have been no major changes in this week's ESPN RISE FAB 50 national rankings.
Bridgewater helped rally the Bulls from a 14-3 halftime deficit to a 22-14 triumph over previously unbeaten Miami Central (Miami), sending the Rockets tumbling from No. 7 to 33 in the FAB 50. Other than Miami Central, no other teams from the Top 25 lost last week.
Northwestern's win could hardly be called an upset. The Bulls were No. 4 in the nation before losing to Booker T. Washington (Miami), 35-28, a week before. Booker T's win over Northwestern now carries even more weight, evidenced by the Tornadoes' jump from No. 24 to 21 this week.
Northwestern, meanwhile, moved back into the Top 25.
This week's highest-ranked newcomer is No. 27 Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati). The Crusaders proved themselves with a 35-13 win over Elder (Cincinnati). Elder, which was ranked No. 3 two weeks ago, fell out of the FAB 50 with a second straight loss.
The only other new team in this week's FAB 50 is Gateway (Monroeville, Pa.). The Gators crushed Hempfield (Greensburg, Pa.) and upped their record to 6-0. They join Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) and North Penn (Lansdale, Pa.) as the only teams from the Keystone State currently in the FAB 50.

Beltway powers. Coker had rushing touchdowns of 17, 37 and 64 yards in the fourth quarter and finished with 205 rushing yards. DeMatha visits St. John's (Washington, D.C.) on Saturday. |

| 15 | Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) | 7-0 | 176 | 16 | Defense was the story for the Huskies in their 45-2 win over the weekend against Salpointe Catholic (Tucson, Ariz.). They rang up three interceptions, sacked the quarterback seven times and had a fumble return for a score. Hamilton is taking this week off, then returns for a showdown on Oct. 23 against state-ranked Brophy Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.). |
| 16 | Stony Point (Round Rock, TX) | 6-0 | 175 | 17 | Winless Georgetown (Georgetown, Texas) provided little competition for Stony Point last Friday night, as the Tigers dominated in all aspects on the way to a 52-0 victory. Junior quarterback Gus Barrera had a career night, passing for 309 yards and two scores, while also rushing for 80 yards and another touchdown. McNeil (Austin, Texas) is the foe in this week's game. |

It will be interesting to see if there is a team out there that can slow down Austin Denton and Marysville-Pilchuck's ground game.
In 3A:
Nine of the top 10 teams racked up more than 30 points last week, and the top four -- Lakes, Bellevue, Liberty and Union -- all pitched shutouts.
This week, the big matchup between ranked teams is No. 9 Juanita at No. 2 Bellevue.

URBANDALE, Iowa -- Booker T. Washington (Miami) is back in the National Prep Poll Top 25 for the first time since the end of the 2007 season. The Tornadoes are ranked No. 16 after their 35-28 upset of then-No. 3 Miami Northwestern on Saturday. It's a similar story for No. 21 Northside (Warner Robins, Ga.), which also returns to the national poll for the first since '07. The Eagles knocked off previous No. 4-ranked Lowndes (Valdosta), 10-7. Highlands (Fort Thomas, Ky.) is in at No. 24 one week after defeating Ohio power St. Xavier (Cincinnati). The Bluebirds' rankings resume was upgraded significantly when St. Xavier knocked off then-No. 12 Elder (Cincinnati) over the weekend. The final spot in this week's Top 25 goes to two-time defending Washington 4A champion Skyline (Sammamish). The Spartans' only loss this season was September 18 to California's top-ranked team, No. 8 Oaks Christian, 28-25. The National Prep Football Poll is compiled by high school sports journalist Jamie DeMoney with input from sportswriters, experts, and coaches. The national Top 25 and regional Top 10's follow with won-loss records:

Dropped out: No. 3 Miami, Northwestern (3-1); No. 4 Valdosta, Ga., Lowndes (5-1); No. 10 Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure (4-1); No. 12 Cincinnati, Elder (5-1). Northeast: No. 9 Wayne, N.J., Wayne Hills (3-1). Midwest: No. 10 Novi, Mich., Catholic Central (6-0). FEATS OF THE WEEK: Top-ranked Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Aquinas defeated No. 2 Duncan, S.C., Byrnes, 42-34, before an estimated 15,000 fans at Lockhart Stadium and an ESPNU television audience. It was the first-ever meeting between the No. 1 and No. 2-ranked teams in the National Prep Poll. Aquinas extended its winning streak to 28 games -- including three out-of-state wins -- despite being outgained by nearly a 2-to-1 margin. A kickoff and fumble recovery returned for touchdowns provided the margin of victory for the opportunistic Raiders. Byrnes quarterback Chas Dodd (Rutgers) threw for 416 yards and three touchdowns in a losing effort . . . The nation's second longest active win streak among 11-man teams ended when regionally ranked Montvale, N.J., St. Joseph's edged Wayne, Wayne Hills, 17-15. The Patriots had won 55 consecutive games dating back to the 2004 season. Smith Center, Kan., which defeated Ellis, 16-10, owns the longest current streak (72) . . . Just as the NFL record book is littered with the name Brett Favre, the Mississippi state high school record book now similarly features his nephew, Dylan Favre. The senior from Bay St. Louis, Miss., St. Stanislaus became the state's all-time leader in passing yardage (9,419) and passing touchdowns (108) in a 42-21 defeat of Leakesville, Greene County. Favre already owned the state record for passing touchdowns in a season (45) and passing yards in a single game. About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff of ESPN RISE compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season. The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and Web sites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service. The National Prep Poll is the first high school football and boys basketball poll to released in the preseason and during each week of the regular season. Criteria considered for the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.

After games of Saturday, Oct. 3
Miami's win over Oklahoma was not the only upset in South Florida.
In putting an exclamation point on a wild weekend, Northwestern (Miami), the No. 4 team in the ESPNRISE FAB 50 national rankings, went down 35-28 to Booker T. Washington (Miami). The Bulls, who two years ago were quarterbacked by Hurricanes sensation Jacory Harris, probably should have expected a close game. Booker T. Washington came in unbeaten and has always been one of the most dangerous teams in Miami Dade County.
On a weekend in which the No. 2, 3 and 5 teams lost, Northwestern missed a chance to jump to No. 2 heading into an ESPN2-televised showdown Thursday night against Miami Central.
Previous No. 2 Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) came up short in a pulsating 42-34 loss to No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). No. 3 Elder (Cincinnati) fell 17-7 to cross-town rival St. Xavier, which like Booker T. Washington is known among locals for winning big games. No. 5 Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.) fell, 10-7, to Northside (Warner Robins, Ga.), another perennial power.
With the chaos unfolding behind St. Thomas Aquinas, the big question was who would move up to No. 2. It was a close vote, as three teams appeared at No. 2 on different ballots, but the nod went to Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) by one point. The Ironmen (3-0) beat Passaic (N.J.) 49-8, but it was clearly their first two wins, one at home over De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) and the other on the road over three-time defending Alabama state champ Prattville (Ala.), that appeared to sway voters. The other teams to get votes for No. 2 were Cedar Hill (Texas) and Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.).
Byrnes fell to No. 5. Making the biggest jump among teams in the top half of the FAB 50 was Highlands (Fort Thomas, Ky.). It was clearly not lost among the voters that the Bluebirds won, 12-7, two weeks ago over the same St. Xavier squad that beat previous No. 3 Elder. Highlands jumped from No. 24 to No. 14.

| Week 6 | |||||
| Rank | School | Record | Points | Prev. Rank | Notes/Comments |
| 1 | Saint Thomas Aquinas School (Fort Lauderdale, FL) | 4-0 | 250 | 1 | The Raiders took advantage of three turnovers and got a signature outing from two-way standout Lamarcus Joyner in their showdown win over previous No. 2 Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) last Friday. It was a big win for head coach George Smith's squad, which has positioned itself to make a run at a repeat mythical national championship. Next up is a conference road game against Nova (Davie, Fla.). |
| 2 | Don Bosco (Ramsey, NJ) | 3-0 | 240 | 7 | Senior Tony Jones scored three rushing touchdowns and added a fumble recovery for another score as Don Bosco Prep rolled past Passaic (Passaic, N.J.), 49-8. The Ironmen led 35-0 at halftime. Don Bosco Prep next faces Clifton (Clifton, N.J.) on Friday. |
| 3 | Cedar Hill (Cedar Hill, TX) | 5-0 | 239 | 8 | While the defense gave up some points and may have missed Texas-bound linebacker Aaron Benson (out with flu), the contest was not close as the Longhorns rolled past South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie, Texas), 47-32, last Friday. Junior Driphus Jackson threw three second quarter touchdown passes and senior safety Elisha Olabode returned a missed field goal 108 yards to make it 37-14 at halftime. Cedar Hill hosts 1-5 Irving (Irving, Texas) this Friday. |
| 4 | Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, CA) | 4-0 | 236 | 6 | In their first outing since coming back from their trip to Washington in which they beat FAB 50-ranked Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.), the Lions upended Venice (Calif.), 33-13. Senior running back Malcolm Jones set a school record with 329 yards rushing on 27 carries and scored four touchdowns, including 211 yards in the second half. Oaks Christian hosts Jordan (Long Beach, Calif.) in its next game on Friday. |
| 5 | James Byrnes (Duncan, SC) | 5-1 | 232 | 2 | Senior quarterback Chas Dodd threw for 416 yards and three touchdowns, but Byrnes dropped the showdown game against No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas, 42-34, last Friday in Fort Lauderdale. The Rebels will be back in the friendly confines of Duncan on Friday to play Spartanburg (Spartanburg, S.C.). |
| 6 | Centennial (Peoria, AZ) | 6-0 | 218 | 9 | Combined with a loss by Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.), the Huskies now have Arizona's longest winning streak at 32 games. They kept theirs going with a 48-0 victory over Tolleson (Tolleson, Ariz.). Centennial will take a 46-point scoring average into this week's game at Ironwood (Glendale, Ariz.). |
| 7 | Miami Central (Miami, FL) | 5-0 | 215 | 12 | It was a business-like win for the Rockets, who trounced Carol City (Fla.), 36-0, last Thursday night. Senior quarterback Jeff Godfrey tossed three touchdown passes on 14-of-20 passing for 251 yards and added a rushing score. The Rockets are looking to stake their claim as the top team in Class 6A with a win on Thursday over Miami Northwestern (Miami, Fla.). Last year, Central topped Northwestern in the regular season before falling to the Bulls in the playoffs. |
| 8 | Lakeland (Lakeland, FL) | 4-0 | 215 | 11 | Head coach Bill Castle's team picked up a 46-14 homecoming win over Plantation (Plantation, Fla.) last Friday. The Dreadnaughts racked up 375 yards rushing and never trailed in the rout. Senior running back Ben McRoy caught a touchdown pass and ran for another. This week's game is against Bayside (Palm Bay, Fla.). |
| 9 | Oscar Frommel Smith (Chesapeake, VA) | 5-0 | 214 | 10 | Phillip Sims threw three of his four touchdown passes in the first quarter as Oscar Smith bounced back from a close call against Grassfield (Chesapeake, Va.) with a 63-3 victory over Hickory (Chesapeake, Va.). The Alabama-bound quarterback finished with 297 yards on 14-of-18 passing. The Tigers play host to Deep Creek (Chesapeake, Va.) on Friday. |
| 10 | Saint Ignatius (Cleveland, OH) | 6-0 | 207 | 13 | Junior running back Robert Grebenc rushed 38 times for 210 yards and scored all four Wildcat touchdowns as the defending state Division 1 champion rallied from behind to hand Washington (Massillon, Ohio) its first loss, 26-21. Grebenc scored on a 10-yard draw play with two minutes left to give the hosts the win. Next up for St. Ignatius is Harding (Warren, Ohio) on Saturday. |
| 11 | DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) | 5-0 | 197 | 14 | Marcus Coker rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns as DeMatha defeated league rival Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.), 49-24. Coker's performance pushed the Iowa-bound back over 1,000 yards for the season. The victory sets up DeMatha for Friday's showdown with ESPN RISE East Region-ranked Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) in a battle of undefeated teams. |
| 12 | Jenks (Jenks, OK) | 5-0 | 192 | 15 | The team's 62-27 win over Sapulpa (Sapulpa, Okla.) was overshadowed by an announcement that head coach Allan Trimble has been suspended for the rest of the season due to the use of an ineligible player last season. More sanctions could be coming for the Trojans as new details are emerging in an ongoing series of investigations and meetings. They will remain in the FAB 50 rankings as long as this year's team is winning games on the field and is still eligible for the postseason playoffs. |
| 13 | Grant (Sacramento, CA) | 5-0 | 187 | 17 | Head coach Mike Alberghini's defense not only continued to dominate in a 62-0 win over Johnson (Sacramento, Calif.) but is now putting up points of its own. The Pacers' fifth straight shutout to start the season included a 10-yard fumble return touchdown by junior linebacker Darryl Paulo and a 15-yard interception return touchdown by sophomore corner Shaquille Thompson. Grant takes on Rosemont (Sacramento, Calif.) on Friday. |
| 14 | Highlands (Fort Thomas, KY) | 7-0 | 185 | 24 | Senior running back Austin Collinsworth ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns as the Bluebirds dominated Dixie Heights (Edgewood, Ky.), 52-9. Sophomore Patrick Towles replaced injured senior quarterback Will Bardo and completed 11-of-19 passes for 178 yards and three scores. The two-time defending state champion is idle this week before playing Covington Catholic (Park Hills, Ky.) in two weeks. |
| 15 | Grayson (Loganville, GA) | 6-0 | 182 | 18 | Coach Mickey Conn's team looked to move into the top spot in Class AAAAA with a win last Friday night. The Rams did that with a 34-0 thrashing of Shiloh (Snellville, Ga.). Senior Ean "Pinball" Pemberton ran for 157 yards on 13 attempts and three scores, all in the first half. Grayson will travel to take on Brookwood (Snellville, Ga.) in this week's game. |
| 16 | Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) | 6-0 | 177 | 16 | Travis Dean found Kyren Poe for a 16-yard touchdown pass with three seconds left to lift the Huskies past archrival Chandler, 24-20. Even though Chandler is 3-3, it was a quality win since Chandler's other losses were to FAB 50 No. 6 Centennial (Peoria, Ariz.) and regionally ranked Brophy Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.) with the Brophy Prep game also decided by one play. Hamilton hosts Salpointe Catholic (Tucson, Ariz.) in this week's game. |
| 17 | Stony Point (Round Rock, TX) | 5-0 | 172 | 20 | The Tigers surrendered as many touchdowns last Friday against Leander (two) as they had in their first four games, and were outgained in total yardage, but pulled away for a 31-14 win behind a dominant run game. Malcolm Marks' 1-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter put the game away and Stony Point's defense also forced four key turnovers. Winless Georgetown (Georgetown, Texas) is the team's next opponent. |
| 18 | West Monroe (West Monroe, LA) | 5-0 | 157 | 21 | The Rebels ran out to a 21-6 halftime lead en route to a 35-6 victory over Airline (Bossier City, La.). Paul Turner completed 5-of-6 passes for 129 yards and an 85-yard scoring strike to Cody Stone. Bubba Reeves and Teshadi Talton each tallied a touchdown as well. West Monroe takes on Ouachita Parish (Monroe, La.) on Friday. |
| 19 | The Woodlands (The Woodlands, TX) | 5-0 | 156 | 22 | The Highlanders enjoyed a weekend off before kicking off district play this Friday with College Park (The Woodlands, Texas). A highly entertaining 31-27 win over No. 27 and defending state champion Katy (Katy, Texas) sits atop the team's resume. |
| 20 | Saint Xavier (Cincinnati, OH) | 5-1 | 153 | 40 | Quarterback Luke Massa connected on 10-of-13 passes for 147 yards and a score as the Bombers rebounded from a loss to Highlands (Fort Thomas, Ky.) to knock off FAB 50 No. 3-ranked Elder (Cincinnati, Ohio), 17-7. Sophomore Conor Hundley also ran 23 times for 95 yards. Up next for St. Xavier is rival La Salle (Cincinnati, Ohio) on Friday. |
| 21 | Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, PA) | 5-0 | 153 | 23 | Jameel Poteat and Matt Johnson had a hand in all six Bishop McDevitt touchdowns as the Crusaders cruised to a 42-6 victory over Lower Dauphin (Hummelstown, Pa.). Johnson completed 13-of-18 passes for 180 yards and two scores. He also ran for a touchdown, while Poteat had three short rushing scores. McDevitt faces Altoona (Altoona, Pa.) on Friday. Altoona is coming off an upset victory over Central Dauphin (Harrisburg, Pa.). |
| 22 | Skyline (Sammamish, WA) | 4-1 | 146 | 25 | The Spartan defense notched its second shutout of the season with a 55-0 win over Garfield (Seattle, Wash.). Standout quarterback Jake Heaps completed 12-of-17 passes for 180 yards and two scores. Running back Nick Washburn and wideout Nick Beauchamp each added two scores, while linebacker Anthony DeMatteo scooped up a fumble and returned it for another. Up next, the Spartans will visit division foe Eastlake (Sammamish, Wash.). |
| 23 | John Curtis Christian (River Ridge, LA) | 4-0 | 132 | 26 | The Patriots continue to dominate in-state opponents. Last week, Curtis blanked Fisher of Lafitte, 43-0, while allowing only 84 yards. Bryce Jenkins accounted for three touchdowns for Curtis, which takes on Riverside (Reserve, La.) on Friday. |
| 24 | Booker T. Washington (Miami, FL) | 5-0 | 131 | NR | A tenacious defense allowed the Tornadoes to upset previous FAB 50 No. 4-ranked Miami Northwestern (Miami, Fla.), 35-28. Lyndon Trail recovered two fumbles and ran one back for a touchdown. Sophomore Amos Leggett also had two of the three interceptions off of highly regarded Northwestern quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Booker T. Washington hopes to keep on rolling Friday at Key West (Key West, Fla.). |
| 25 | Maine Township South (Park Ridge, IL) | 6-0 | 129 | 30 | The defending state Class 8A champion Hawks stymied Evanston's potent running game to claim a 30-2 victory. Matt Perez, a running back-linebacker, impressed both ways with two sacks and 119 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback-defensive end Matt Benz passed for two scores. Maine South takes on Waukegan (Waukegan, Ill.) in this week's game. |
| 26 | Elder (Cincinnati, OH) | 5-1 | 122 | 3 | The Panthers suffered their first season setback at the hands of city rival and FAB 50-ranked St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio), 17-7. Elder also likely lost standout senior wide receiver Tim O'Conner for the season after the University of Indiana recruit fractured a wrist on the first play from scrimmage. Quarterback Mark Miller was 18 of 37 passing for 250 yards and a touchdown. On Friday, Elder faces city rival Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio). |
| 27 | Katy (Katy, TX) | 4-1 | 117 | 28 | The Tigers were off this past weekend, prepping for the District 17-5A opener with winless Morton Ranch (Katy, Texas) this Friday. The defending 5A, Division II state champs have quality wins already over No. 43 North Shore (Houston, Texas) and Washington power Bellevue (Bellevue, Wash.) to go with a narrow loss to No. 19 The Woodlands (The Woodlands, Texas). |
| 28 | Allen (Allen, TX) | 4-1 | 116 | 27 | The Eagles were off this week and are probably thankful for the extra time to help prepare for Thursday's clash with Boyd (McKinney, Texas). The Broncos (4-2) have an explosive offense that is averaging nearly 45 points per game, although they give up a ton of points, too. Boyd lost last Friday, 84-40, to Plano West (Plano, Texas). |
| 29 | Hoover (Birmingham, AL) | 6-0 | 105 | 32 | Alabama's top-ranked team won a showdown of unbeaten, backyard rivals with a 24-21 triumph over Spain Park. Sophomore Larsen Real's 29-yard field goal with three seconds left decided the outcome. Hoover, which trailed 21-0 in the first half, recorded its 41st straight region victory and ninth in a row vs. the Jaguars. Junior quarterback Ryan Carter completed his last 10 passes and ended with 17 of 28 for 220 yards and one score with three first half interceptions. Up next for Hoover is Mountain Brook (Ala.) on Friday. |
| 30 | The Bolles School (Jacksonville, FL) | 4-0 | 99 | 29 | Things are starting to look routine for Bolles as the Bulldogs destroyed Fernandina Beach (Fla.), 65-0. Junior Jawan Jamison left the game with an injury after rushing for 164 yards on only five carries and two touchdowns. Senior Jay Herndon had two touchdowns on four receptions for 134 yards. The Bulldogs travel to University Christian (Jacksonville, Fla.) for this week's district opener. |
| 31 | Miami Northwestern (Miami, FL) | 3-1 | 88 | 4 | City rival Booker T. Washington (Miami, Fla.) stunned the Bulls, 35-28, last Saturday night at Nathaniel "Traz" Powell Stadium. The Bulls were coming off an impressive offensive performance a week ago in which junior quarterback Teddy Bridgewater threw for a Miami-Dade County record seven touchdown passes. Bridgewater was intercepted three times and was pressured all night against Booker T. The team battles FAB 50 No. 7 Miami Central (Miami, Fla.) on Thursday in a nationally televised game on ESPN2. |
| 32 | Glenville (Cleveland, OH) | 5-1 | 86 | 33 | The Tarblooders exploded for 28 points in the second quarter to pad a 42-0 halftime cushion en route to a 55-6 Senate League victory over rival East Tech (Cleveland, Ohio). Robert Walton Jr. rushed for two 1-yard scores and Shane Wynn landed two touchdown passes in the first half attack. Glenville takes on Marshall (Cleveland, Ohio) on Thursday night in this week's game. |
| 33 | North Penn (Lansdale, PA) | 5-0 | 83 | 34 | North Penn used a 21-point first quarter to roll past Central Bucks East (Doylestown, Pa.), 41-0. Quarterback Todd Smolinsky completed 5-of-9 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for a score. Craig Needhammer also rushed for 95 yards and a score. North Penn next faces Central Bucks West (Doylestown, Pa.) on Friday. |
| 34 | John Tyler (Tyler, TX) | 5-0 | 82 | 36 | Idle this past week, Tyler begins district play on Friday night with a trip to the Metroplex to take on 5-0 Horn (Mesquite, Texas). Dynamite dual-threat quarterback Emory Miller leads Horn, but Tyler has one just like him in SMU-bound Jeremy Johnson. |
| 35 | Northside (Warner Robins, GA) | 5-0 | 82 | NR | Dillon Mixon drilled a 20-yard field goal with under three minutes left and the Northside defense made the score stand up in a 10-7 win over previous FAB 50 No. 5 Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.). Quarterback Briar Van Brunt scored Northside's lone touchdown of the game on a 4-yard run on the team's first offensive series. The Eagles host Coffee (Douglas, Ga.) in this week's game. |
| 36 | Crenshaw (Los Angeles, CA) | 5-0 | 81 | 41 | Senior receiver Geno Hall hauled in seven catches for 142 yards and four touchdowns as the Cougars trounced previously unbeaten Culver City (Culver City, Calif.), 48-7. Junior quarterback Marquis Thompson had all four touchdown passes and also ran for a score. After a bye week, Crenshaw opens Coliseum League play on Oct. 16 against Manual Arts (Los Angeles, Calif.). |
| 37 | J. K. Mullen (Denver, CO) | 5-0 | 80 | 35 | The Mustangs took a 21-0 lead into halftime and went on to record a 28-0 shutout of Overland (Aurora, Colo.) last Friday. Adonis Ameen-Moore led the way with 19 carries for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Mullen plays at home this week against Arapahoe (Littleton, Colo.). |
| 38 | Phoebus (Hampton, VA) | 5-0 | 73 | 31 | Eric Enderson converted a 39-yard field goal with nine seconds left as Phoebus avoided an upset defeat with a 21-19 victory over Woodside (Newport News, Va.). Phoebus travels to Kecoughtan (Hampton, Va.) on Friday. |
| 39 | Independence (Charlotte, NC) | 7-0 | 64 | 37 | Kyle Greg and Kierre Brown each scored two touchdowns as Independence defeated Ardrey Kell (Charlotte, N.C.), 38-12, to stay on top in the Tar Heel State. Independence travels to play Providence (Charlotte, N.C.) in this week's game. |
| 40 | Skyline (Dallas, TX) | 5-0 | 60 | 39 | The Raiders scored on seven first half possessions on the way to a 65-0 rout of winless Molina (Dallas, Texas) last Thursday night. Eight different players scored for Skyline and that did not include star wideouts Mike Davis and Joe Powell, as the Raiders attempted just three passes in the win. Richardson (Richardson, Texas), with a 4-1 record, should provide much stiffer competition this Friday. |
| 41 | Tulsa Union (Tulsa, OK) | 4-1 | 54 | 38 | Andre Hearron and Jarred Davis both surpassed 100 yards rushing and combined for three touchdowns as the Redskins rolled past Owasso (Owasso, Okla.), 42-7, in last Friday's game. The defense also shined by holding the Rams to minus-19 rushing yards. Union goes on the road this week to play Yukon (Yukon, Okla.). |
| 42 | Lowndes (Valdosta, GA) | 5-1 | 50 | 5 | Northside-Warner Robins upset the seemingly invincible Vikings, 10-7, in last week's game. Lowndes lost a tough road contest when kicker Jed Solomon missed a 36-yard field goal as time expired. Robert Anderson scored on a 19-yard run to tie the game at 7-7 in the third quarter. Coach Randy McPherson's team looks to rebound against cross-town rival Valdosta (Valdosta, Ga.) this Friday in the annual Winnersville Classic. |
| 43 | North Shore (Houston, TX) | 4-1 | 48 | 42 | The Mustangs begin District 21-5A play on Friday night with a tilt versus Memorial (Port Arthur, Texas). Senior running back Tim Cornett has emerged as a major weapon for North Shore to this point, rushing for 775 yards and eight scores on just 68 carries, including a 352-yard, four-touchdown performance against La Marque (La Marque, Texas). |
| 44 | Memphis University School (Memphis, TN) | 7-0 | 39 | 43 | Keith McBride rushed for 194 yards and three touchdowns as Memphis University School defeated White Station (Memphis, Tenn.), 55-35. Up next for MUS is an Oct. 16 road game against St. Benedict (Cordova, Tenn.). |
| 45 | North Gwinnett (Suwanee, GA) | 5-0 | 36 | 44 | The Bulldogs were idle last weekend, hoping they didn't lose any momentum from their hot start. Junior quarterback C.J. Uzomah looks to lead his team to a road win against Chattahoochee (Johns Creek, Ga.) in this week's game. |
| 46 | Madison Central (Madison, MS) | 6-0 | 27 | 45 | Tobias Singleton returned two kickoffs for touchdowns of 92 and 61 yards and landed a five-yard scoring pass as the Jaguars routed Murrah (Jackson, Miss.), 51-7. Quarterback Peyton Johnson also completed 13-of-18 passes for 116 yards and a score. Madison Central takes on Warren Central (Vicksburg, Miss.) on Friday. |
| 47 | Butler (Matthews, NC) | 5-0 | 21 | 46 | The Bulldogs were idle last weekend, and are still riding high from their recent win over Richmond County (Rockingham, N.C.). They play on Friday at East Mecklenburg (Charlotte, N.C.). |
| 48 | Hightower (Missouri City, TX) | 5-0 | 19 | 47 | After surrendering an 80-yard scoring pass on the game's first play from scrimmage, the Hurricanes gave up nothing more in a 28-7 win over Travis (Richmond, Texas). John Parrham rushed for 127 yards and a TD that gave Hightower a 10-7 lead in the second quarter that proved to be the game-winner. Hightower has allowed just 33 points in five games and opens District 23-5A play Saturday versus Dulles (Sugar Land, Texas). |
| 49 | Oceanside (Oceanside, CA) | 5-0 | 13 | 48 | It was 42-0 at halftime of the Pirates' 56-14 romp last Friday over San Marcos (San Marcos, Calif.). Quentis Clark fueled the first-half outburst with three touchdown passes. Oceanside has a bye on its schedule this week, then returns to play Westview (San Diego, Calif.) on Oct. 16. |
| 50 | Edison (Huntington Beach, CA) | 5-0 | 7 | 50 | It took two overtimes, but the Chargers prevailed, 36-29, last Thursday over Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) on a 7-yard game-winning touchdown run by quarterback Matt Viles. In addition to that run, Viles also completed 26-of-39 passes for 263 yards and three scores. Edison has a bye this week. |

For the first time this year, the 4A top 10 went a full weekend without a single team losing. The only team that experienced a scare was Ferris, which had to travel to California. The Saxons claimed 41-35 victory over Esperanza in overtime.
Since each team took care of business, the rankings stayed the same.
In 3A, only two teams lost and each one fell to a ranked opponent.
Despite a 28-21 loss to No. 3 Liberty, Juanita stays in the rankings. With a potent running game, the Rebels, who suffered their first loss of the season, are able to control the clock. It will be interesting to what happens when undefeated Interlake brings its high-powered, quick-strike offense into Juanita's house Friday. The Rebels then play at Bellevue the following week.
Glacier Peak came close to knocking off No. 6 Meadowdale, but fell, 34-28, in overtime. After a 3-0 start, the Grizzlies have dropped back-to-back close games. So, for now, Camas returns to the top 10 after a 41-14 win over Hudson's Bay.
