Gridiron Scholarships

Skyline Gridiron Club is a part of the Skyline High School Scholarship Breakfast held each year to recognize the outstanding personal achievements of Spartan students who are the winners of scholarships from dozens of community, regional, state-wide and national organizations.
The accomplishments of our football program over the years have been identified in many different venues and media sources. And yet, beyond all of the publicity, there are also individual players who believe that their own personal rewards and team success have been attained because of their involvement in Spartan football.
We celebrate these players as they leave the halls of Skyline to pursue secondary education opportunities and begin their life’s journey. Since 2004, we have awarded over $13,000 in scholarships to Skyline graduates:

Scholarship funds may be used to further the recipients' educational opportunities at any secondary level facility, including public or private institutions (any accredited university, college, community college, junior college, vocational or on-line program). Available scholarship funds are based on the fund raising activities of Skyline Gridiron Club each year and the number and amount may vary.
Applications must be postmarked by April 1st each year to be considered.

SILVER Scholarship
Graduating Senior Players must submit a formal essay application, along with letters of reference. Their submission must explain their choice for participating in the team sport of football, how long they have played (youth & high school), highlights, honors & accomplishments while in the Skyline high school program and plans for involvement in the sport after graduation.
Primarily, they must clarify what they learned about themselves through the Spartan football experience, what they personally contributed to the program, and how it impacts their future.
Required:
Two (2) letters of recommendation from people familiar with the applicant who can attest to their deserving the award. Letters cannot be from family members or current Spartan players, but can be from coaches, teachers, employers, community members or even Spartan Alumni who personally know the applicant.
List of personal accomplishments and other extra-curricular activities (job, volunteer work, other school activities, etc)
List of all other scholarship applications submitted or awarded from other organizations.
Required essay of no less than 500 words should include:
Explanation of football experience, including participation length (prior to and including your high school experience),why football was a choice for the athlete, and any special football honors, awards or accomplishments received.
A statement regarding what lessons learned by participating in the Skyline Football program, what personal contributions to the program were made and why the athlete is the best candidate for scholarship consideration.
Explanation of how the award will be used – what school (proof may be required at time of award), whether a plan to continue to participate in a football program, either as a player or in some other capacity in the future, and what career path is planned.
Remarks about involvement in the Skyline High School Football Program and how it has prepared the athlete for life after graduation and any other general comments important for consideration of the application.
RUDY SPIRIT Award
This award was established to recognized characteristics similar to those of Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger, a student who overcame all odds to enter Notre Dame and join the Fighting Irish football team. Recipient is chosen by fellow Senior teammates based on the following criteria:
* Putting the team first * Strives to give more than 100%
* Encourages other Players * Respects the Coaches
* Enjoys being a Spartan, whether he’s a starter or on the sideline.
