Skyline Spartan High School Football in Sammamish, Washington, established in 1997, has grown into the state's premier program. Many voices familiar with high school sports and football in particular, believe the foundation for the success is due to four core principles:
Outstanding Coaching Staff who beyond teaching the basics of the game, focus their attention on helping individual players to be part of the team, regardless of their skill set, building confidence, self-esteem, and team unity....
Dedicated players working hard in the off-season on improving their physical resilience needed on the field at every practice and game, and their personal characteristics as role models in the community to younger players coming up through the system....
Encouraging families and community who promote the importance of attitude, work ethic and tradition as a basic philosophy of life as well as offer positive examples of "giving back".....
Supportive school administration that works with the program and community to enhance the high school experience beyond academics in the development of well-rounded graduates.
Spartan football weekly games are a small part of the process. A lot of sweat equity is required to field a premier program such as ours, which has received a lot of recognition over the years.
Since 2000, Spartans have yielded many accomplishments, including:
WA State Champions: 2000 2005 2007 2008 2009 2011
WA State Champion Runner Up 2004 2010
WA State Playoff appearances: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011
KingCo Conference Champions 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010
Because of the success, the program and all its elements, the Spartans have collected some high visibility:
2008 - Seattle Seahawk's NFL High School Player Development Team won the national competition in New Orleans in a record setting 11-0 performance - it was led by two Spartan Coaches and included 5 Spartan players
2008 - Ranked #5 in the nation by USA Today High School Football Rankings and featured on ESPN in our first nationally televised appearance
2009 - ESPN Featured Game of the Week, nationally televised as well as completing the third consecutive season to bring home the state trophy
2012 - Traveling to Murray UT to again compete in front of an ESPN audience - Sr quarterback ranked #1 in the nation
Because of fielding a large youth support program system, and our historical success, we continue to attract high numbers of athletes to turn out each season, allowing teams to be fielded at the Varsity, JV, Sophomore and Freshman levels.
Each season over 150 athletes sign up to play - our program welcomes all interested and does not have a cut policy. Along with our Coaching staff, players commit to a 12 month effort towards each successful season. Raising awareness and resources is also as 52 week endeavor.
Resources from school districts to support activities that have been identified as "extra curricular" are only available during the school year, are limited in scope and continue to shrink. So as they say "to fill the gap" the Skyline Gridiron Club was established in 2001 as a 501(C)3 organization under the IRS code and we licensed to operate as a non-profit by the State of Washington.
Fund raising efforts include a tapping into a variety of constiuencies and methods. Current efforts include: ADVERTISING and EVENTS as well as DONATIONS, and MATCHING FUND programs.
